Liver Tumor Treatment
Liver tumors are sometimes treated using Y-90 beads. These microscopic beads contain radioactive Y-90 which emits radiation that penetrates the tumor without very much radiation extending out to other organs. The beads are injected directly into arteries feeding the tumors through a catheter which is inserted into a small puncture in the leg artery, under X-ray guidance.
